Like eddy current testing, remote field and near field technologies are electromagnetic inspection techniques specially designed for examining ferromagnetic tubes. With these methods, part of the field generated by the emitter coil is guided by the ferromagnetic tube's walls. Any variations in those walls affect the concentration of the guided field lines. A receiver coil, mounted upstream of the emitter coil, detects these field fluctuations indicative of flaws in the tube wall. This method is particularly suitable for heat exchangers containing ferromagnetic tubes, as used in the nuclear and petrochemicals industries.
Probes are available in single emitter, dual emitter and dual receiver configurations. Like tube probes, our remote-field probes can be protected with a stainless steel sleeve. Our probes have a built-in amplifier for enhanced sensitivity to small defects. We supply sheath-mounted probes, selecting the sheath with mechanical characteristics best suited to the profile of the tubes to be inspected. Probes are also available in flexible and rigid versions, according to the profile of the inspected tubes.
Our remote field probes larger than 26mm in diameter are flexible, to facilitate inspection tasks. Each of the probe's constituent modules is centred by means of interchangeable brushes, and modules are interconnected by hollow shafts with a high tensile strength.
Our rigid probes are available in a range of diameters from 9mm to 26mm. These probes are protected by a stainless steel sleeve that considerably increases their service life.
